Short Bio

A graduate of Fine Art Print from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), I returned to printmaking after a number of years away from my art practice. Over the past four years, I have been working primarily in linocut as part of a collaborative project illustrating selected columns by nature journalist Larry de Lacy. This work culminated in Fieldman Revisited, a limited-edition book published in June 2024. I am a member of Graphic Studio Dublin and will be exhibiting in their Summer Show in August 2025.

Statement

I make linocut prints inspired by the wild birdlife along the coastline of North County Dublin, where I live. Many of the birds I depict visit the saltmarshes of Baldoyle Estuary—an ever-changing, quiet place that’s central to my work.I walk these coastal routes regularly, observing, listening, and waiting for moments of encounter—a curlew lifting its head, a sedge warbler breaking into song. I take photographs, sketch, and return to the studio to draw as a way of understanding what I’ve seen. Compositions are developed slowly and deliberately before being transferred to lino.Working mainly with small V gouges, I use both traditional lino and Japanese vinyl, depending on the level of detail I want to achieve. My prints are small-scale and multi-block, beginning with a key block and adding colour through additional layers. The process allows me to focus on what’s essential—the pink legs of an oystercatcher, the white crescent on a brent goose’s neck.Making this work helps me connect more deeply with the natural world. It’s a way of paying close attention, learning, and returning, again and again, to the birds and the places they inhabit.
